What is the African Odyssey?

The African Odyssey: DocumentaryYou’ve seen "The Long Way Round" and "Motorcycle Diaries", maybe even "The Last Hurrah". Now it is time for "The African Odyssey".
A documentary following four friends hailing from Whakatane - New Zealand. Armed with limited motorcycle experience, funds or planning and plenty of enthusiasm Phillip Anderson, Jeremy Gray, Julian Kardos and Nic Twaddle set out to ride motorbikes from Cape Town to London. In true "no worries mate" kiwi spirit (a 1990 XR-250 farm bike is just as good as a brand new BMW 650 any day) caution was thrown into the fickle winds of chance, on the 28th July 2006 the Odyssey Core Crew set out to ride overland by motorbike from Cape Town to London. We decided screw the job, screw the financial security and the good advice, screw the grossly exaggerated stories and the paranoia. There is only one chance for a mission of this scale and we all knew if it wasn’t now it was never. Some how we succeeded? Somehow, with minimal planning and bikes most people wouldn’t ride to the cow shed we managed to ride the length of the African continent from Cape Town to London - 21,000km. Before departure for what some would consider (especially our parents) a slightly crazy adventure, concern was high from friends and family who had considered many weird in wonderful ways we might meet our perilous end. The adventure went extremely smoothly for the most part (if you ignore things like bikes being run over by dump trucks). Along the way we captured the breakdowns as well as the beauty of Africa on a Sony HVR A1P high definition video camera purchased from http://www.camerasrus.co.nz/. This footage is now being turned in to a collage of African Adventure ready for New Zealand television. Enquiries can be forwarded to postproduction email by clicking here. All messages of support for some good quality positive television content are much appreciated.
